It’s easy when you are the most key person in the room. All eyes are fixated on you anyway. Kate, the princess of Cambridge, is in that league.
But no matter how significant you are or how stylish your choices are, very few females truly manage to draw attention repeatedly with their choice of outfits with almost every community appearance. Kate is one of those few females. She has found the right formula to stand apart even in a room full of royalty, first wives and style divas. Her grace statement is chic, subtle, sophisticated and impactful all at the same time. Is there a formula to get it right all the time?
Says style designer Nishka Lulla, “Kate has natural beauty. It displays in what she wears, how she walks and her whole attitude. Since she is young and has a lithe body, she also carries gowns and outfits very well. When someone has in-built confidence and style, she will always stand out.”
Whether it was Epsom Derby, where Kate wore a cream Joseph jacket, diaphanous Reiss outfit and nude LK Bennett accessories; meeting the first lady of the US, Michelle Obama, in a bandage outfit again from high street brand Reiss; or a current charity occasion where she wore a Jenny Packham gown, the Duchess of Cambridge looked striking and made heads turn.
Robb Young, author of Power Wearing: First Ladies, Women Politicians and Style told a magazine after the royal marriage about Kate’s choice of her “Cinderella” marriage gown (designed by Sarah Burton, creative director of Alexander McQueen), “There’s completely no doubt that Kate’s clothing will be a trendsetter. It’s sleek, understated, flattering, thoroughly modern and romantic.”
The duchess of Cambridge has not only got it right with her marriage, she has learnt the fine art of maintaining the high standard she set for herself since she announced her engagement in the blue bandage Issa London outfit in February.
If you want to dazzle with each appearance here are three things to keep in mind:
1. Never ever try and imitate somebody. Being yourself is the only way to stand out.
2. Find out the cut, hues and look that ensembles you. Stick to similar clothes without being too experimenting, unless you are 15!
3. Taking good care of you hairstyle makes-up for little blunders here and there. So never ever have a bad hair day when you want to make a grace statement.
