Prince William declared his new wife 'my rock' in an emotional speech given to guests at the evening reception following Friday's wedding.
In what was a tribute to the normality and security Kate provides him, William's intimate words in front of 300 gathered family and friends revealed just how indebted he is to Kate for her support.
After the wedding party, the two retreated to Buckingham Palace's Belgian suite, usually reserved for visiting dignitaries.
The following morning, Kate awoke a Princess, the first day of a new life that must have once been impossible to contemplate.
After a light breakfast, the new Duchess of Cambridge emerged from the garden entrance of the Queen’s official residence still on a high, and still wearing the joyous smile that bewitched billions on Friday.
The couple are thought to have spent their first night as man and wife in the ground-floor Belgian Suite of the Palace, which is traditionally reserved for visiting heads of state.
They were flown from Buckingham Palace in a maroon Sikorsky S-76C Spirit from the Queen’s Helicopter Flight, which took off at 11.15am. Before they boarded the aircraft, which bears a gold crest, Palace staff had carried out some of their luggage, including a bouquet of white blooms.
The newlyweds paused to thank two Royal Household footmen and for William to chat to the helicopter pilot. But they disappointed crowds waiting in the Mall who were hoping the couple might make an impromptu public appearance
