UP and down the land the bunting fluttered and the booze flowed as Britain went street party crazy to mark yesterday’s big day in style.
There was dancing in the streets, flag-waving and wild celebrations as excited revellers, many with Union flags painted on their faces, soaked up the atmosphere
And at the moment William and Kate finally tied the knot in London – beamed on big screens across the country – huge cheers and applause rang out.
There were more than 5,000 street parties and hundreds more open air events. Hundreds of residents of Kate’s home village of Bucklebury, Berks, celebrated with £30 bottles of Laurent Perrier champagne as they watched the wedding on a big screen. One, Jayne Wells, 35, said: “She looked so gorgeous and very elegant.”
Fellow villager Laura Purcell added: “It was a beautiful, fairy tale wedding.”
In Manchester more than 1,000 people gathered in the sunshine to watch the wedding on giant screens.
Scarlett Smith, 23, Chloe Kerr, 22, Elle Davies, 22, and Lara Richards, 22, were dressed in skimpy dresses covered in Union flag sequins. Scarlett said: “We wanted to dress up and show our grandchildren what we were wearing on the big day.”
